While it is normal for artists to sing and write their songs, it is not conventional for EDM artists. Typically, EDM involves one DJ behind the booth, mixing well-crafted beats, and vocals, if any, are sourced from external collaboration with different artists.
However, it is not in Chainsmokers to go by the ordinary flow, and the duo has changed EDM with their versatility that has not only appealed to a much wider audience, but also fundamentally changed the way other artists produce their music as well.
Hard work well-rewarded
Alex Pall, one of the duo that makes the Chainsmokers, the other being Andrew Taggart, attributes their global success to their constant efforts to evolve and become better artists. As a result, the Chainsmokers have become a household name, and their hits have become a global anthem.
More recently, their hit song, closer, collaboration with the talented Halsey, was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A status every artist dreams about, yet, only a handful of them achieve the fete.
Giving EDM a new face
If you ask Alex Pall, their relentless efforts have finally paid off, but it is the level of chemistry and versatility he has with Andrew Taggart, that has delivered all the accolades. The Chainsmokers not only write their songs but also sing in them, which is characteristic of any other genre, but atypical in EDM.
The new style by the Chainsmokers has excited fans in the masses with their hit song, Don’t Let Me Down. According to Alex Pall, their collaboration with Halsey in the song Closer is just a sneak preview of the ideal artists they are working towards becoming.
More about the Chainsmokers
The duo met back in 2012 after Andrew Taggart relocated from Maine to New York, where Alex Pall had already established himself and was Djing in a couple of gigs around New York City.
The two would put in hours upon hours in producing music, operating from Pall’s apartment. The Chainsmokers, in their career, besides Halsey, have collaborated with other famous artists such as Coldplay, Daya, and Priyanka Chopra.
